A Backward Approach to Hitting the Slopes
Uphilling—also known as ski touring or skinning—means to hike up a mountain on skis or a split board using specialized equipment, including skins (the sticky coverings on the bottom of skis) and specialized alpine touring bindings. At the top of the mountain, you can head back downhill using the very same equipment you climbed up in.
This vigorous workout has become so popular in the Aspen-Snowmass area, that all four area mountains accommodate uphill skiers with designated—and seriously stunning—routes.
